Studio Stories Tokie Taylor Studio Issue 2 by Tokie Rome-Taylor
We have all had time to find "our new normal". I am still staying indoors as much as possible. So much has happened! We are still quarantining. My children are learning virtually like many of you all. I am exercising extreme caution and staying safe. Photography has been a blessing to me and I have had the opportunity to share it with my community. I have enjoyed the support of great collectors, friends and clients.
The art world has found its footing in virtual exhibitions as artist talks so that has really given me back some of my joy. I truly miss going to openings in person, but I actually get to go to more now. Glass half full! I have resumed exhibiting, virtually of course! I am a part of a group exhibition in Gilroy, California and I will also be showing at SP-Arte, a major art fair in São Paulo, Brazil with MFON- Women Photographers of the Diaspora. Life has settle into this weird routine of virtual teaching, teaching my children, creating new work, reading, and preparing for shows. I don't really missed being around people, I am an artist after all! I like being by myself, but I did miss those conversations that happen in art spaces. My saving grace has been my weekly "Art Church" meetings with several other artists- Delita Martin, Ann "Sole Sister" Johnson, Sachi Rome, Chloe Alexander, and Shawanna Davis, and Stacey Robinson. They have keep me sane. We have pushed each other in our artistic practice and acted as sounding boards. There is nothing like having people around you-virtual or in real life, that support and encourage what you do. Enjoy this latest issue. As always I love to hold conversation with other artists and art lovers. Feel free to comment or reach out.---Tokie
