Studio Stories Tokie Taylor Studio Issue 1 by Tokie Rome-Taylor
I started this Zine during the time of Covid. It was my way of coping with all of the uncertainty and anxiety I was feeling as the whole world hunkered down to slow the spread of Covid. All of our exhibitions are canceled, and I was really feeling at a lost. I am a very practical, glass half full, positive person in all things....including a Pandemic. Even though I was feeling anxious with the safety of me and my family's health at risk, as well as so many others, I had to search for the positive. There were still wonderful things happening in my life, I just had to pause and look for them. The zine is my reflection of my thoughts as an artist. I have really slowed down to think about what I am trying to say in my work. I had time to deepen my reading and connect to some really great people, such as curator and Tina Dunklin fellow, T.K. Smith, who help me gain clarity about what I was exploring. I have had time to experiment with mixed media processes, such as encaustic wax, that shift my photography in a different way. I'm still learning and growing. As always, photography and the art process making, has been my lifeline to center me. Check out the issue and let me know your thoughts. I love talking to other folks who love art and photography as much as I do, so hit me up. ---Tokie
