Reclamation is here!!
I am so excited to share my latest project with y'all! For some crazy reason, I thought it would take me about 3 maybe 4 months to complete (more like a year and 3 months lol), however, I could not be more proud!
If you have been following the development of my book, Reclamation it is finally here.. in my hands.. in my studio! To those that pre-ordered already, I will begin shipping out your copies in time for the holidays!
It started of as a small idea and grew into a change agent for all that were involved and I am eternally grateful for all that are a part of this beautiful monograph! Reclamation opens with words by fellow artist, Deborah Roberts and includes essays by artist/writer/scholar /curator Berrisford Boothe, curator and writer Juana Williams, and former executive director of the Griffin Museum of Photography, Paula Tognerelli.
Reclamation is a beautiful celebration of Black southern children as conduits of history, culture, and family connections. It is part art book, family archive, and my visual examination of my southern roots reaching for my African heritage. It includes interviews of the families discussing their family artifacts and history in the south, essays from art curators and writers, as well as in-depth discussion by the artist that focuses on the photographs' connection to art history, and cultural traditions of African Americans in Georgia.
I truly hope you all decide to add it to your bookshelves. Please feel free to share this email with with folks who are lovers of books about family, history, children and the arts. Hopefully they may want to add it to their shelves as well!
Order link is below and thank you for being on this journey with me.
I am always grateful to you all. - Tokie
