Myth -Science, Metamodernism and the Metaverse

“Prince of Knowledge” Tokie Rome-Taylor, 2018
Excited to be a part of this amazing exhibition, Curated by Reynaldo Anderson and the Black Speculative Arts Movement. The Black Angel of History exhibition is an analysis of visual culture and technology within the genre of Afrofuturism. It functions as an avatar for Afro-Speculative, examining the power that creativity wields in the struggle for various freedoms of expression and the politics of resistance. Showcasing illustrations, graphic design, video, literature, and mixed-media digital and analog artworks, this exhibit features emerging, mid-career, and acclaimed artists, writers, performers, and designers.

University of Delaware: Speaks-Warnock Symposium

The History Department and the UD Anti-Racism Initiative are sponsoring Self-Fashioning and the Black Portrait Tradition on Thursday, February 24th at 5:00-6:00pm.
This symposium features the work of photography-based artist, Tokie Rome-Taylor, whose images of young Black children evoke African diasporic material culture. The panel will have an open conversation about Black portraiture and self-fashioning that emphasizes Tokie Rome-Taylor's work within a larger portrait tradition. Tokie Rome-Taylor will be in conversation with Dr. Julie McGee, Professor of Africana Studies and Art History, regarding the legacy of images and the ethics of producing and collecting Black portraits, Dr. Curtis Small, Special Collections/Rare books librarian, TK Smith, curator and UD History graduate student, and Danielle Bing, History graduate student specializing in fashion and self-representation. We hope that attendees will leave the discussion understanding how Rome-Taylor uniquely contributes to that tradition while pushing the genre forward with her contemporary photography.
